Feelgood supporting vocals are provided by Sonja Kristina of Curved Air and Chrissie Hynde , the lead singer of Pretenders (a year and half before their first album, Pretenders c ame out). Musicians on hand include Larry Wallis of the Pink Fairies and Wilko Johnson of Dr. Whether this is just a persona or the actual state of Mick Farren ’s life at that point – I doubt anyone could tell the difference, the music is that heartfelt. ![]() ![]() Pretenders from 1979 and Pretenders II from 1981 will also be available on limited edition red and white vinyl respectively, as well as a special, numbered print based on the Brass In Pocket single cover limited to 500. There are no less than three songs about drinking – “ I Want a Drink ”, “ Half-Priced Drinks ”, and “ Drunk in the Morning ” – plus a monologue about personal demons called “ (I Know from) Self-Destruction ”. The Pretenders are to release brand new 3CD deluxe editions of their first two albums, curated by lead singer Chrissie Hynde. In the original ‘classic’ line-up these included lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, bassist Pete Farndon, and drummer Martin Chambers. Vampires Stole My Lunch Money is a more personal record than his other albums. The focus of The Pretenders, founded in 1978, is squarely on lead singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde, although she has always sought to share credit with the other members of the group. ![]() The album opens with what might be the best cover of a Frank Zappa song by anybody: “ Trouble Coming Every Day ”, a seething litany of what’s wrong with the world that could surely have come straight from Farren’s pen. With her swagger, signature shag haircut, electric guitar and breathy voice, Chrissie Hynde encapsulates a detached ambivalence rockers wish they could imitate. After taking several years off from making music, Mick Farren resurfaced in 1978 with a brilliant solo album, Vampires Stole My Lunch Money. The Pretenders Jon Bon Jovi Jon Bon Jovi has set the bar for nearly three decades as the lead singer of one the worlds most successful rock bands, Bon Jovi.
